FREE-DAY FREAKFEST FINISHED PROJECT

Variety of wear, the last image most truthful
Today while it stormed outside, I finished sewing the black buttons onto my flea marked shoulder-padded jacket (during this time I watched The Departed). I always push my sleeves up above my elbows, which for this jacket creates a sort of incredible voluminous effect. In images 1,6, & 10 I am wearing lipgloss by YSL and a dress of my own construction as well as assorted flea market bangles. In image 2 I am wearing an accompanying skirt by Alexandre Herchcovitch. In image 4 & 7, I am wearing my favorite skirt by Please Dress Up! And the hood/scarf in 7 is by Juun J. lipstick is NARS.

Although I am quite a fan of modern usage of shoulderpads (a la Margiela, Ann Sofie Back, Balmain, etc etc), I have very consciously steered clear 1980's shoulderpadded pieces because I generally feel like their shapes do not support the shoulder volume. Naturally, I was wary when I picked up this jacket and spied the combination of massive shoulders and batwinged sleeves. But for some reason...this time it worked. I chose to embelish the shoulders with the black buttons to both visually weigh them down as well as showcase the silhouette.

Love, love, love what you've done with the jacket. The contrast between the black hard plastc buttons and the soft fabric of the jacket looks amazing.
