Tens, tens across the board
Fingers wagging, ghosts of banjee screaming, hands shoulders hips heels & trophies. Welcome to NY Is Burning. The night payed homage to the late 80's classic, "Paris Is Burning" by keeping true to traditional format of a Ball, but opening it up to a more public sphere. As the ball circuit and world of vogueing is still predominately underground, last evening's event gave many of us the rare opportunity to gain insight into the society of spectacle. The categories included: First Time at a Ball, Butch Queen in Pumps, European Runway, Hot Body, New Way vs Classic (vogue), and Bizarre v. Couture v. Avant Garde. I took enough photos to fill a scrap book, so below you will find the most adrenaline filled moments. Follow the rules, bring your best, and please...WORK!

Hosted by the House of Xtravaganza

& The Judges: Hamish Bowles (Vogue), Ana Matronic, Luna Legacy, Andy Salzer, Justin Bond, Evelyn Santos (Body and Soul), and more...

CATEGORY: EUROPEAN RUNWAY. Can you sell it?

Enter House of Legacy

Enter Matthew Ninja. I live!

Legacy VS Ninja
Ninja wins - props to Legacy for light-up collar, but extra technique points to Ninja for usage of handbag as defensive blocking device

STOP THE MUSIC! STOP! THE! MUSIC!

NEW WAY VS CLASSIC
Enter Javier Ninja - I GAG'd. Youtube him please, you will feel forever inferior. After his show nobody dared crawl onto the catwalk...

Except for House of Karma. Its a battle!

Both displayed clean technique, daring physical feats, athleticism, musicality, creativity... the judges couldn't bear to make a discerning choice after the performance that left most of us speechless (or just screaming WERK)

Next Category - Bizarre v. Couture v. Avant Garde

House of X.T.R.A.V.A.G.A.N.Z.A.

Legacy vs Xtravaganza. I think you can tell the winner.
& when the night was over, Cameron and I returned to Brooklyn and Naomi'd our way back home.

(Coat - Harmon / Leggings - OAK / Boots - Rick Owens)

(Dress - Vintage / Coat - Zucca / Necklace - 3.1 Philip Lim / Shoes - LD Tuttle)

...Except there are no black people.
...which is why I referred to the night as an 'homage', as opposed to a cuthroat serious competition. No need for shade, let the kids have fun.
This is AMAZING. I love vogue battles, I had no idea how intense they can be until I youtubed them a few months back. Looks like in incredible night!
