ODE TO THE JUMPSUIT

Could it get any easier?
There really isn't anything like shopping vintage in California, however living in the same neighborhood as Beacon's Closet has been alright for the time being. What have I picked up in the last month? The sequined top in the prior post, a pair of over-the-knee red boots (this is for another time), and two full length jumpsuits. There is something really special about finding a jumpsuit that fits the length of your body correctly and pulls in at all the right places. Another thing that I love about this sort of garment is that its really all-encompassing; a full on look from head to toe - and need I say, slightly ballsy? A little bit powerful? An air of mystery? Extra points for jumpsuits that have pockets as well.

And what themed-post could be complete without a little nod to my favorite magazine ever, ENCENS? I flipped through my 5 issues to find the best jumpsuit moments.

& why not jumpsuits for the boys too?

FAVORITE NEW THANG

More black, more sequins. Surprised?
After stomping over to beacon's closet yesterday wearing my matrix-esque Zucca coat from the last post, I came away with this really interesting Calvin Klein sequined top. I liked the length and texture of the individual sequins, but it was a few sizes too small. Usually I have a no-tolerance policy for garments or shoes that aren't the correct size, but for some reason the dulled and distressed gunmetal gray really spoke to me. I noticed that there was an under-layer of crepe fabric identical to that on the trim, so I removed that layer, cut it into panels, opened up the top on the side seams, and sewed in the panels to turn it into an exaggerated crop-style shirt. The result? Insta-love!!

How many tones and textures of grayscale can I pack into one ensemble?

RAIN MOMENTS

(Coat - Zucca / Scarf - Marc Jacobs / Shirtdress - Ann Sofie Back / Boots - Veronique Branquinho)

A quick moment before going out into the slight rain. I've been trying to find ways to make this coat more casual in order to get more wear out of it. PS The adorable lunchbox collection in the background belongs to my roommate. I take full responsibility for the pile of junk on the top shelf!

SHAPES & ANGLES

(Shoulderpad Leotard - Gestuz / Tank - Altered A. Wang / Pants - DIY / Shoes - LD Tuttle)
A slight change of weather
I made these pants almost one year ago, but as I more often than not wear dresses, they really haven't seen the light of day too often. Also, the clothing that I make for myself tends to fall apart after multiple wears...lets just say that these trousers were literally safety pinned together for a few months and totally inappropriate to wear outdoors. Next comes this issue that I have a completely inadequate selection of tops to wear with a pant such as this. Luckily, I've been wanting to play more with my current wardrobe, so donning the pants was a great excuse to work with what I already have.

& also,
I am getting SO excited for the launch of the #2 issue of LURVE magazine. All I can say now is that its coming very soon and looks very good inside.

ENOUGH ABOUT THEM, NOW BACK TO ME!

(Shot at the Metal Magazine party)
Here lie the remnants of fashion week past
I guess this is a bit of a follow-up post to my "Caught Trodders" blurb the other week. As one who is usually snapping the photos, I've found some pleasure (and some absolute terror) from fining others' shots from the past couple of weeks. So here you go, enjoy some pictures of me that were not taken on my Nikon D70s.
