PLAY IT SAFE OR PLAY IT COOL

(Harness - Zana Bayne / Dress - Y's)

Since I moved to New York, I've experienced somewhat of a time warp. I feel like yesterday was new years, and now tomorrow is May!!! And before I know it, I have 20 emails I've forgotten to respond to and I've gone 5 days without blogging without even realizing it. So my sincerest apologies - I didn't mean to get sucked into this black hole of busy livin'!

So back to normal programming - last night was Paper Magazine's 13th annual "Beautiful People Party", where The Gossip performed. Needless to say, they KILLED IT!!! I almost saw them play several years ago in a small venue before they exploded over the music scene, but for some reason I didn't end up going, so this was my first time experiencing the powerhouse that is Beth Ditto.

I also took this opportunity to premiere the new harness piece I've been working on. Its kind of a half body skeleton bra with shoulder extensions - its equally dramatic worn underneath a garment as it is worn over. You'll see more of this very soon.

Boys, boys, boys.

DARK ENTRIES

(Open dress - Pleasure Principle / Blazer - Zara / Leather leggings - Audrey Cantwell / Bootstraps - Zana Bayne / Boots - Veronique Branquinho)

Rainy day at
work. Testing my skeletal bootstraps for the second time on my boots - success! Thoughts of extending the strap so it goes up the leg to mid calf; thoughts?

JUXTAPOSITION

(Draped Top - Pleasure Principle / Sheer Tank - American Vintage / Trousers - Jodi Arnold / Monster Shoes - Jeffrey Campbell)

Day 1 of wearing my monster wedges: So far, the shoes' zippers have eaten the back of my ankles (to be expected from initial wear until they stretch out a bit), and I almost ate shit walking to work after the shoe caught on some uneven sidewalk. I guess 5" platforms distort depth perception a bit...but the positives truly outweigh any of those minor complaints. I will reiterate, they are EXTREMELY comfortable.

Today I decided to contrast the extremity of the shoes' appearance by dressing down the rest of what I wore. I love the combination of pleated trousers with insane heels, and the draped Pleasure Principle top makes everything better!

AND IN OTHER NEWS 2 interviews that I did just went up this week - if you're not already sick of my blah blah and opinions, check these out:

Thought I'd share this precious moment from GAG! with the ever so lovely Michael Magnan

A GOOD SHOE DAY

A couple of weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that I was in desperate need of some over the top, sky high, monstrous platform shoes. Fast forward to Monday, when I stopped by Trash and Vaudeville to check out their shoe situation. And that's when I saw THEM. The queen of all of their platforms, the strangest combination of heel and shoe - the lattice caged creation by Jeffrey Campbell. I left without them, but they stayed on my mind day and night so I made sure they were put aside when I came in today. They are now mine.

Now as many of you know, its hard for me to leave a shoe in its virgin state - I take pleasure in alteration, whether that means re-covering a boot in studs or bedazzling it to a point of no return. The diagnosis for these was a change of platform color. Although I LIVE for the shape, there is just something about the silver color that I can't hang with. So in the words of Mick Jagger, I decided to "Paint It, Black".

So much better.

& surprisingly light weight too!

Unlike the monster shoes, these were completely unplanned. A quick stop at Tokyo 7 brought me to these Chloe wedges from FW07. Not only was that an INCREDIBLE season for Chloe (under the direction from Paulo Melim Andersson), but its such an iconic shape - I've rarely seen them floating around in black, only in colors that would be awkward for me to wear. With all of the Rick Owens wedge boot knockoffs these days, its nice to wear something that is a similar shape without referencing another design. Total success!

TYE DIE DIE DIE

Today I am wearing tie dye. Not just any tie dye, but harsh starburst galaxy-esque tie die engineered by my favorite NY line Pleasure Principle. They have managed to take a usually playful print and turn it sinister - just the way I like it. A lot of the time people ask me why I only wear black, and honestly that's not my defining rule - its just hard for me to find pieces that are both colorful and have a cut that I like. At the same time when it comes to prints, I have to equally like the textile design as well as the garment it is printed upon! This dress passes both of those requirements, so yes - I guess I will be a summer gothic hippie, and enjoying myself the entire time.

IT'S RAINING MEN

(666 Hat by Chris Habana)

Who remembers my Halloween post? Well this is pretty much in the same vain - another evil, explosive night at GAG! The following photos are from Saturday night, where my roommate Cameron's party (GAG!) celebrated a 666 themed 6th year anniversary. To summarize things, there was a t-shirt give away, most scandalous photobooth strip competition, lots of drinking, and men for days!

Naturally, I had to wear something a little bit...finessed. Welcome my skeleton body suit from a Halloween store circa 2004 - I don't think I've worn it since then either! Cameron opted for his simple yet effective Margiela one legged leggings.
