LEATHER BABY WINGS

It took a lot of willpower not to post this photo when I first got a hold of it! Your eyes do not deceive you, those are indeed junior sized leather wings. Upon the request of a friend, I made a scaled down version of my 2-Wing Shoulderpiece for his niece to wear on thanksiving. I thought it was a fabulous idea, and they final result is pretty damn cute! I will be selling them on my new online shop (launching at midnight!) - they come with their own box for storage as well.

MAXIME HAS A FASHION BLOG

For all of the hundreds of personal style blogs in existence, there are not enough run by men - even less of whom have discerning taste. Whenever male friends of mine have entertained the though of documenting their wardrobe, I always urge them to do so...but most of the time its no more than a pipe dream.

I am happy to announce that I have found a converter, and a rather prestigious one at that (but he would never admit to it). My friend and multitalented editor of Sang Bleu & Novembre magazines, typeface designer and tattoo artist, Maxime Buechi has started a fashion blog. And I will take full responsibility for pestering him over twitter to making this happen.

Maxime seems to have a blog for every occasion (from his magazines to his tattoo work & everything in between), so I found it funny that he didn't have one for his personal attire. For a man who spends so much of his time working around fashion, he has a delightfully unclouded way of dressing. Its not about excess, nor is it about a radical statement. You will, however, find plenty of Rick Owens, Kris Van Assche, Givenchy, Boris Bidjan Saberi, and Nike worn completely casually.

BIZZARD AFTERMATH, DAY 2

I wish I could use the snow outside as an excuse to pause all productivity, but business must go on as usual. I figured if I had to leave my apartment (which I did), I might as well wear something obnoxious (sequined pants) to take my mind off my cold damp feet. Today's life shattering highlights include rearranging my apartment, a pilgrimage to The Container Store, and working on samples. Oh, and I answered a few interview questions for HighSnobette.com - check it out HERE

My block is still filled up with snow

There are still several buried cars

Strange icicle weapon/sculptures have been appearing

Coat - Preen / Hood - Juun.J / Leggings - DIY / Boots - Frye / Bag - Maison Martin Margiela / Belt - Zana Bayne

BLIZZARD AFTERMATH

In case you don't live in New York or haven't heard, we got our first blizzard of the season out of nowhere last night (there was thunder too...apparently called a "thundersnow"). Apparently the entire subway system is for the most part shut down, and all of the places that I needed to go to today are not open. While the normal person's instincts might be to stay inside, the desolate state of my refrigerator's contents forced me to make a small journey to my local grocery store. Its pretty incredible to see my neighborhood in Brooklyn so snowed in, that the streets are packed thigh-high with powder.

KINDA FESTIVE

(Red vest - Miu Miu / Leather jacket - Rick Owens / Dress - Diana Brinks / Boots - Aldo)

As I was looking at my ensemble in the mirror this morning, I felt...boring. Drapey black dress, big black boots, black leather jacket, blah blah blah. I could easily do the same sort of thing every day, and you would never know that I was rotating through different pieces! But then I realized that the monotony could be instantly fixed with my magical Miu Miu vest from Change Of Season. Note to self: wear this more often!

To those who celebrate Christmas, have a lovely one. To those who don't, have a lovely day off!

STYLING THE 'TRADITIONAL HARNESS'

(Dress - Rodebjer / Harness - Zana Bayne / Shoes - Jil Sander)

As a maker of things, I deem it part of my responsibility to road test them as well. I like to know what my pieces feel like after 8 hours of wear, I like to test out reactions and connotations. I've been very excited about this harness since the moment I began making it. I started out with the shape of a traditional leather daddy chest harness (hence its name, the "Traditional Harness"), but wanted to embellish the front with some of the detailed leather work that I have been doing lately. Its also reversible, as the other side of it is much simpler. Additionally each strap is detachable, so it can be worn with as many or as little connecting straps in several arrangements.

I originally designed this piece with a male audience in mind, but I never like to let the boys have all the fun. I think its fantastic over dresses as well! The "Traditional Harness" will be available online at http://shop.zanabayne.com on 1/1/11

BOX ME IN

Its been an intense couple of weeks, and though I've spent more time in my studio than outdoors, I HAD to make sure to get over to the closing party for the jewelry pop-up shop, lovingly labeled "The Box". The participating artists were Arms and armory, Bevel, Bijules, Bliss Lau, Chris Habana, and Elizabeth Knight - most of whom are already dear friends of mine in the NY design world!

When a lot of people speak of New York (especially in the fashion world), they talk about how competitive and cutthroat the industry is. To a certain degree - sure. But what I've discovered from working here is that there is an overriding amount of camaraderie, support, and community especially within the jewelry/accessories scene.

Bliss Lau is the OG chain harness maker...her pieces work just as beautifully as wall art as they do on the body

Can't tell if this is insect or crustacean...but haunting & beautiful! By Arms & Armory

Bliss's nails caught my attention, but then my eyes went straight to her chain rings (and her Bevel "Camazotzs Claw" ring)

Be careful of Jonathan's wrist - that's real gold!

This dog was killing all of us. Cutest crop sweater ever!
