If you asked me two months ago if I would ever get a tattoo, the answer would be something like, "I really like them on other people, but can't imagine them for myself.' Something about the combination of conquering my wrist injury, making the decision to work on my leather business full time without the a second job, and being completely dumbfounded by how enjoyably crazy my life is now, made me think that it would be great to mark this time with a tat. Besides, I thought it would be such a shame to go through my early 20's without getting any ink!
Also important - the piece was conceptualized as a kind of collaboration between artist/editor/friend MXM (of Sang Bleu etc) who is only in town for a short while. I've always admired his tattoo work, my favorites being the minimal geometric designs that he creates himself, and the artful way he arranges more victorian'esque elements. I told him that I wanted skeleton keys on a ring, and he went off from there. The hand & moon were a happy idea that we stumbled upon, which I loved because I had been wanting a hand portrayed in some way, but couldn't come up with anything elegant. The tattooing took place at East River Tattoo in Brooklyn.

Love! Fantastic tattoo!
perfect!
I'm definitely one of those people with little tattoo aspirations, but your tattoo is way sweet. I think you're right about early 20's and getting inked. I might brainstorm some tattoo ideas, in case I meet the right artist.
P.S. I remember when you were living in Berlin. How does NYC compare to Berlin? Or are they so different that you wouldn't compare them?
nice piece! and he's wearing a burzum shirt, double nice!

Been following your blog for quite some time now, but wasn't able to visit until now and this news about getting a tattoo is beautiful! Beautiful design, beautiful meaning behind it. Congratulations!
Zana, this looks really, really cool! I got my first tatoo when I was 29, I wanted one before I turned 30. Since then I keep thinking about getting the next one... I would love maxime to do mine. I really love his work! well maybe sometimes...
The fact that you got it from a guy with a BURZUM shirt is the icing on the cake. Beautiful black and gray work.
