I don't think I've experienced life coming 'full circle' as much as I have in 2012. One of the most extraordinary cases revolves around the band STARRED. I knew Liza Thorn (the blonde half of Starred with Matthew Koshak) back in the San Francisco party days, and if you're an avid Garbage Dress reader you might remember her from a few posts in early 2009. In Winter of 2011 I saw that Starred had been photographed by Hedi Slimane while they were living in LA, and my friends at Riot Of Perfume debut'd their video 'Call From Paris' in March of this year. The next month, I was hanging at my friend Shenan's apartment waiting for her to get ready, and I fell into conversation with her roommmate Todd whom I had met and worked with briefly a few months back (and started dating one month after). He started telling me about two bands he was very excited to be signing, the first being Von Haze and the second being, you guessed it, Starred.
Did you follow all of that? There's just a few more anecdotes to add to the story: Starred's 'Call From Paris' is featured on the new (Yves) Saint Laurent website, and the video for their single 'No Good' (directed by Grant Singer) premiered yesterday. Sick song, watch now.
Finally: I will be hosting the PENDU Sound Recordings Showcase on Thursday night at St Vitus in Brooklyn featuring YOU, Tempers (my newest obsession), Von Haze, Black Marble, and for their first time headlining STARRED!!
