ELEVEN OBJECTS

If there's one thing I love about living in New York, its being able to have an open, friendly, and supportive dialog with my peers in the strange world of fashion design. If you haven't heard of Eleven Objects, then you might be living under a rock or don't use the internet because they have been slaying the blogworld with their infamous detachable collars since their FW11 collection hit. Like harnesses, collars are one of those niche accessories that you don't really realize you have been craving until you put one on your body - and then suddenly you don't know how you lived without it! I tend to enjoy the strict look of blouses buttoned up all the way up to the neck, so I love being able to achieve this effect with the simple addition of a collar over my pre-existing wardrobe.

The designers Linh Thi Do and Christine Rhee have taken this concept further by expanding to a small ready to wear collection, featuring a collars that are attached to sleeves (these are divine), peplum belts and vests, bralettes & matching dresses.

Don't feel like committing to a fully furry jacket? Zip yourself into the sleeves instead!

The Eleven Objects girls were so kind to play matchmaker with me and a patent leather collar. Naturally I am attracted to all things black & shiny - it was true love at first sight.

I guess "approachable" wasn't entirely the look I was going for.

THE MISSING LAYER

I bought this minidress from Zara last summer knowing all well that it was far too short to worn in public without risking several unexpected peep shows. Regardless, I liked its minimal lines and flared skirt. The solution came to my by accident last week, when I borrowed a stretch skirt from a friend after a "I hate what I packed for myself to wear tonight" crisis. She said to me, "I know how you like your layers!" and that got me thinking about other ways to utilize the skirt. And with a little inspiration from Givenchy FW11, my minidress problem was solved.

IS THIS REAL LIFE?

I mentioned really briefly in December that I made the Forbes list of 30 Under 30 in Art & Design (who, me??) which is still a bit surreal. I was graciously invited to the celebratory cocktail event the other night where I ate all of the snacks, drank all of the booze, and got my picture taken in front of an official party wall! But in all seriousness its such an extreme honor to be included on the list and makes for great motivation to keep improving my craft as I'm currently entering an equally exciting and challenging time with my business.

Serious faces. Dress by Blumarine, "Valentina" Harness, Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony purse. Exclusive arm candy.

It didn't matter that I had been up & working since 7am (and that I loathe going out on Tuesday nights), nothing could keep me from my boy Frankie Sharp's party WESTGAY where Drag Race star Sharon Needles was making a guest performance. You can figure out the rest.
