WELCOME TO MY DUNGEON OF LIGHT

I'm here! All moved in! In my new apartment! I can't express how much this space is going to positively impact my existence. The payoff for being on the 5th floor of a walk-up building is the bountiful amount of light that enters the entire space. But as I am a creature of aesthetics, I can not let a virgin space remain pure for long. I knew from the getgo that I wanted to put a 5-point star above my bed so that it could be seen through the other rooms (its not painted, it is in fact black electrical tape). More interior developments coming soon!

After being discouraged by exorbitantly priced shelving options, I stumbled upon this 6-tier shelf at Bed Bath and Beyond in the bath section! It was advertised for holding towels, but I think it works perfectly for my books and magazines.

Until I figure out storage (ideas please?) my shoes will live here.

When I got to the apartment with the movers I found a butterfly hanging out inside. Must mean some sort of luck, right?

And since I'm all about realness, here's the reality of my apartment: I don't really have any furniture or storage yet, so I'm drowning in a sea of boxes and duffel bags for the time being! Not everything can be glamorous when you're doing it by yourself.

SUMMER OF WACKY PANTS PT. 1

About two weeks ago, an excruciating urge came over me. An urge for patterned harem pants. I can't tell you why, but I sure can tell you that I spent quite a while searching through google and shopstyle and several boutique sites until I came upon this perfect pair from a source I never would have checked before, ASOS.com (I ordered some light gray skinny-legged overalls there when I was 16, but haven't been back since). These stretchy comfy pocketed wonders are by the label Something Else, and I can already tell that I'll be wearing them all summer long.

Rainy day at work. Testing my skeletal bootstraps for the second time on my boots - success! Thoughts of extending the strap so it goes up the leg to mid calf; thoughts?

Day 1 of wearing my monster wedges: So far, the shoes' zippers have eaten the back of my ankles (to be expected from initial wear until they stretch out a bit), and I almost ate shit walking to work after the shoe caught on some uneven sidewalk. I guess 5" platforms distort depth perception a bit...but the positives truly outweigh any of those minor complaints. I will reiterate, they are EXTREMELY comfortable.

Today I decided to contrast the extremity of the shoes' appearance by dressing down the rest of what I wore. I love the combination of pleated trousers with insane heels, and the draped Pleasure Principle top makes everything better!

TYE DIE DIE DIE

Today I am wearing tie dye. Not just any tie dye, but harsh starburst galaxy-esque tie die engineered by my favorite NY line Pleasure Principle. They have managed to take a usually playful print and turn it sinister - just the way I like it. A lot of the time people ask me why I only wear black, and honestly that's not my defining rule - its just hard for me to find pieces that are both colorful and have a cut that I like. At the same time when it comes to prints, I have to equally like the textile design as well as the garment it is printed upon! This dress passes both of those requirements, so yes - I guess I will be a summer gothic hippie, and enjoying myself the entire time.

BODY CON SUNDAY

Some days I like to switch away from the diaphanous garment or oversized sack dress. This is my first attempt at any sort of "bandage" dress, and what you can't tell is that there are also mesh inserts that create cut outs. I'll be saving those for summertime though. The dress is by Factory by Erik Hart.

For those of you who do not live in or around New York, it has been frighteningly hot for the past two days - I'm talking 80 degree weather! The tropical climate mixed with a mutual day off meant one thing for Cameron & I: Museum date!! We had procrastinated for far too long - and with the Tim Burton show coming to a close in a couple of weeks and the Marina Abramovic performance well under way, the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
